Creativity, Innovation and Relocation to Albury Pays Off for Talented Designer
19 June 2018
Twelve years ago Megan Zawertailo moved from Sydney to Albury with her young family to start a new life. An experienced designer with a background in graphic design and art direction for publishing and advertising, Megan picked up freelance work before moving into her own premises.
Originally located in Swift Street, the move brought with it increased exposure, more work and an opportunity to grow a creative team to manage the output. Kindred Creative Co. was formed and the expanded team relocated to its current premises, a beautiful space in Dean Street.
“Our studio didn't always look like this. When we initially leased the space it hadn’t been occupied for years. It took some imagination to see its potential and even more weekends and late nights to transform it,” Megan explained.
And what an inspired space it is – bright and welcoming with ambient music filling the otherwise quiet, light-flooded workspace. Fitted out with contemporary custom-built furniture in a clean minimal style, an open window fills the space with the breeze of a warm autumn afternoon.
Megan and the Kindred team work with clients from a range of sectors including tourism, business and local government to create enduring brands.
“We pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive, strategy-led approach to brand development that is tailored to the unique needs of each business” she said,
“More and more, our clients understand the importance of establishing a strong brand foundation. They can appreciate the benefits of consistently branded and appropriate tools to communicate effectively with their own audiences. While we ‘live and breathe design’ at Kindred, our work actually goes much deeper than just designing a good looking logo,” Megan explained.
Kindred’s brand development philosophy is firmly entrenched in a desire to provide creative solutions that are not only visually impactful but ultimately deliver effective results.
“Our service ranges from brand and naming strategy workshops to logo design, website design, copywriting, photography, interior concepts, illustration and everything in between.”
Late last year Megan’s keen entrepreneurial eye saw the opportunity for business diversification by acquiring an adjoining office space and expanding their Dean Street studio. With the help of a “very accommodating landlord” she developed the space into a collaborative hot-desking hub called K:lab. Through this expansion Megan has opened the door for creative freelancers, artists and small businesses to work within the Kindred studio environment either on a permanent or casual basis.
The co-working concept, while not a new one, caters for growing demand in the region for creatives to work among like-minded people while fostering small business efficiencies. The benefits extend beyond affordability to opportunities for collaboration, networking, and mutual growth via client projects, as well as providing a more structured workspace beyond the home environment.
Megan’s plans for Kindred’s immediate future include business consolidation and more organic growth.
“We’re always on the lookout for likeminded local creatives and opportunities to collaborate. Our goal is to continue doing the high quality design work that we love, to attract quality clients that appreciate the difference good design can make to their bottom line and to grow our team as the demand for diversified services continues. We will always be a personalised, agile design studio,” Megan explained.
In Megan’s view, providing this boutique design firm offering will not only enable Kindred to improve their client’s brand development experience, but will also ensure her and her team remain innovative and at the forefront of communication design in the region and hopefully beyond!
